Stunning Spell: Stupify(All Students)

Lesson 1
Sloan walked into the classroom and greeted the young witches & wizards "Hello Students" as he walked past them heading to the front of the class and began to write on the board the lesson that they were to learn today and what he wrote went as follows.
                                                "  STUPIFY "
Stupify is a spell that can be used to stop an attacker dead in there
Tracks and become as stiff as a board,this spell is easily recognized
By the ray of ruby red light that explodes from the tip of your wand
What I want you to do is right a two paragraph example of how you would use "Stupify" to protect yourself from the dangers of being attacked.

A rolling of eyes came from a lone Hufflepuff that sat corner left in a room that was literally slithering with the likes of the professor. Augustine had no doubt of the numbers of Slytherin’s that were all but busting out of their emerald and onyx knickers at the newest brown nosing opportunity presented to them.

Great had I known we would be repeating shite we learned at home in our nappies I’d have taken this time to do something constructive like I don’t know weeding Edgar’s pot, or bathing Prune.

That voice of reason that normally condemned such thoughts reminded her that even though she thought him vile, and grating in every stretch of imagination she needed to respect his position of authority. Hogwarts was supposedly the best when it came to teaching of magic, so this lesson’s regardless of how elementary they seemed probably had a purpose.

Where she wasn’t particularly successful in suppressing the blatant look of disdain that washed over her normally sweet features she did managed to least stop herself from a second and more obvious rolling of eyes and an audible groan as she pulled a fine piece of parchment from her black leather parchment holder.
Taking out her favorite Baltimore Oriole quill she, the small glass ink pot that contained oil-based ink quickly followed she un-corked the ink and began writing her style of writing was different because of being raised predominantly in American schools and being left handed which meant the calligraphy which she traditionally used always had a slight left slant.

The classic stunning spell known as the Stupefying Charm is primarily known for leaving the victim unconscious, but aside from this widely known fact it is used to halt moving objects.

Scenario Case Point One

The case of Professor Hawthorne, and Thadious Avery. This widely known attack historic in Hogwarts history is a prime example of how this spell could and should be used.  March twenty third, in the year of nineteen seventy six. Professor Hawthorn was teaching a typical muggle studies class when she had a disagreement with a seventh year student of hers by the name of Thadious Avery. A known pure blood student from the house of Slytherin, harbored prejudice views on subject of muggle rights. He became enraged by the lesson being taught.

His outrage, and malicious temper saw him attack the teacher later that evening while she was closing her class. Thadious Avery proceeded to sneak into the class, and attack the pregnant professor while her back was to him. Using the illegal Cruciatus Curse he incapacitated the professor, and proceeded to torture her for over an hour, His efforts to mentally destroy the professor were thwarted by of all things a second year student by the name of Charity Burbage who successfully used the Stupefying Curse that her Defense Against the Dark Arts professor had taught the class that prior morning.


Theory in action

Personalizing this lesson, I would like to think if I was in a position where I was watching an innocent person being attacked by a dirty no good disgraced to wizarding kind like Mr. Avery I too would be brave. That I would walk into to that classroom, and I would show that vicious moron the same consideration that Mrs Burbage did.. I would confront him head on as she did.. I would too endure his sneer and insults, and when I saw him lift his wand from his intended victim knowing she was safe from his harm I would raise my wand and preform the same spell by the same wand movement the typical slice down, and the same incantation of Stupefy pronounced (stew-puh-fye ) that I have been doing non verbally since I was a forth year...

Scenario Case Point Two

The Apprehension of Thadious Avery. Upon learning that he had openly attacked a professor, and had stupidly used an illegal curse to do so. The staff of Hogwarts where faced with a problem of how apprehend the vile coward. Though Charity Burbage had successfully taken him down he was sent to the infirmary as the ministry was called. The healer in the infirmary mistakenly reversed the spell that kept Thadious from being a danger to himself or to others, to compound the problem the healer had fail to secure him in restraints. Sadly the outcome was the moment the healer had her back turned Thadious proceeded to try to kill yet another innocent woman when he threw a pair of old magical scissors at the head of the healer.

Thankfully he was thwarted yet again, because the healer heard him grab the scissors from the tray next to the bed. She turned just in time to use the stunning curse on the pair of scissors before they caused her injury.

Theory in Action

If I find myself in the same situation where my life is threatened by an adamant object such as a pair of scissors being thrown at the back of my head by some pretentious coward. I too would simply perform the same incantation as mentioned prior.. Stupefy pronounced (stew-puh-fye )and the same slicing wand gesture, though currently I can do it non verbally.

Complications with the Stunning Spell

The spell is not full proof unfortunately there is an assortment of counter spells that items can be charmed with that make them resistant to the Stunning spells.
Strong Creatures are renowned for being able to withstand the effects of the Stunning spell.. Dragons for one are renowned for not being effected by a stunning spell unless it is used by many wizards at one time. Though this is has been proven as a ineffective means of sedation, as many potions have proven to be more effective in sedation, and many Dragon handlers swear by the notion that the best ways to sedate dragons is a nightgale and chamomile serum. Small doses of the serum (about four milligrams) could incapacitate a human for typically forty eight hours.

Conclusion

Where the Stunning spell is effective, I believe that it is a typical standby because it literally is so easy a second year could perform it.. I believe however in the wages of war, and in the true event of attacks, and defense it is best never ever to under estimate your aggressor, or intended victim. Common sense is at times the best weapon a wizard, which can hope to have in their arsenal of items at their disposal.

Was it likely that she would risk insulting the Professor with her paper that not only openly insulted members of his family, but also questioned his teaching abilities? Ohhh yes, she might have crossed the line. Though in the mind of Augustine Corey it was necessity as he had from what she could tell that single night built a life around the concept of insulting others, and karma as it seemed needed a hand at giving some back when it concerned Professor Avery so it was high time he have a place set aside, so he could be shoved in it.
After all what was the harm, it was a lot easier to argue innocent ignorance when you were only a sixth year student, and she had in her corner the fact that she completed the assignment just as he asked. There was no harm in instigating him to do something hopefully regrettable, and shouldering the wrath of a Proffessor meant if it meant getting that moron sacked she would gladly take one for the team, after all she was a Hufflepuff sacrificing for the sake of others were in their nature, so yes in her mind it was high time to make that pompous windbag question exactly why he opted to get in the line of working with the youth of tomorrow.
Finishing her assignment quickly as it was only her and a Slytherin girl who had finished before her and was busy peeling paint from her nails. Auggie smirked as noted that the Slytherin girl took the professors assignment less serious than she did. .As to that particular girl the assignment meant a single paragraph that contained 24 words constituted a paragraph. Shaking her head she opted to read ahead in the book used for the class.

[ROCHELLE CASTER]

Defense was supposed to be Rochelle's favorite subject but that year, after Professor Avery began at the school, she couldn't get herself motivated for class. She had heard many rumors about the man from other students about his temper. One minute he was bearable and the next he grew with wrath. For that lesson, instead of arriving early like she always had before, Rochelle found herself slinking in with a small crowd of other students. If she couldn't stand out, she couldn't be targeted.

The professor wasn't at the front of the class when Rochelle swung her legs in front of herself. She worried for a moment that he would be late. Then, a voice called out a small greeting as the instructor moved up to the blackboard and began the lesson. Immediately, while he had his back turned, Rochelle pulled out her eyeglasses from her pocket and put them on. Her brown eyes read each word as Avery wrote them. Two paragraph example? she thought as she comprehended the instructions. The girl wasn't sure how she felt about wand theory in a classroom based on practice. She shrugged and attempted to remove a roll of parchment, an ink pot and a quill from her bag.

Rummaging through her supplies, Rochelle frowned. She had parchment and it would be many lessons until she ran out of ink. But the girl forgot that the only quills she packed herself were the Fwooper ones a friend had given her for Christmas. Rochelle thought they were brilliant, of course, and knew she was going to enjoy using the brightly colored pens. Professor Avery gave off a professional tone in his classroom and Rochelle regretted that she had to use such a flamboyant writing utensil and attract attention to herself. Her wishes to avoid Avery's anger were beginning to look slim.

She chose a quill with a lime green feather that danced as Rochelle did her assignment. It clashed with her robes and skintone but she hoped the color would entice the Slytherin Head rather than disturb his teaching negatively. Enthralled in her essay, she grasped the side of her desk as she wrote. Wand theory was starting to come off as almost story telling. Though she didn't cite them as experience, Rochelle had actually used the Stunning spell in duel with a bullying Ravenclaw she had encountered her third year. She hadn't been caught and the student was too embarrassed to name her. That was one of many dumb moves on Rochelle's part, but she just did not like bullies and chose to confront them rather than turn them in to a professor.

As she added the finishing touches on her assignment, Rochelle surveyed the room watching the faces of the other students.

Althea entered the classroom just a few steps behind a group of students. She glanced around the room and spied Aug at the back of the classroom. She hurried to sit next to her friend, keeping her focus on getting to her seat without getting noticed by Avery. She sat next to Aug and shot her a small smile in greeting, Althea was not about to draw attention. She had heard rumours about Sloan and thought for now it would be best to blend in, keep her head down and work as hard as possible to prepare for her NEWTs. Thankfully Avery wasn’t in charge of their exams, he just had to prepare them with what material could be asked in the final NEWT examinations.

Avery greeted them and then turned to write on the board. Althea was confused, Stupefy was a basic spell that was taught to first years within their first week. It was so basic that it hadn’t even been on the list of spells expected to be performed for OWL practical exams. She had been thinking that seeing as most students in the class were fifth year or older, that they would be learning far more difficult spells or for theory studying dangerous dark creatures. Althea couldn’t help but frown, two paragraphs on how to use stupefy? How the hell was she supposed to expand point wand say stupefy into two paragraphs? Honestly this was ridiculous. She pulled out her parchment, ink and quill. She had no clue what she could write to fill two paragraphs, but she would just have to put something on the parchement.

Althea chewed the end of her quill, thinking of the best way to start. She leaned forward slightly and began to write.

The stunning spell (stupefy) also known as a stunner or Stupefying Charm is known to render a victim unconscious and halts objects. It is derived from the latin term stupere, which means to ‘stun’ or ‘amaze’. Stupefy is commonly used in duels as a defensive/offensive spell. It is far more effective in duelling when used in conjuction with other spells and is less effective when used on it’s own.

It’s damaged can greatly be increased if used by multiple wizards/witches aiming at the same spot, a famous example of this is when a Hogwarts professor was hit with the spell by numerous ministry officials in 1996 and needed to be treated at St Mungo’s. However, some species are resistant to the stunning charm. These species includes dragons, trolls, giants and half-giants, but it is important to note that dragons can circome to the stunning charm when hit by multiple stunning charms. 

Althea sat back and read what she wrote. Sure it wasn’t her best attempt but it was the best she could do given the circumstances.
