Herbology Lesson One - All Students

Gilly Weed.

Gilly weed was what was written on the board that stood at the end of the table that was open to 30 students. Herbology was a subject that covered the general aspects of the magical herbs that could be found amongst the magical lands of the wizarding world. In this subject students are able to differentiate the difference between good and deadly herbs. Professor Enobaria Thorne was of course here to help students through this tough journey. Today they were to start with the topic of Gilly Weed and the five aspects of it. Purpose, Use, Disposal, Methods, Reproduction. These of course were something the students would be tested on at the end of term exam.

Just under the title of gilly weed was written in bold letters Page 13 of One Thousand Magical Herbs and Fungi. This lesson was of course dedicated to the study of Gilly Weed and one of the aspects of it. " Come on in and take a seat close near the front. " The greenhouses were an excellent classroom as it had the most sunlight coming in which Enobaria had enjoyed the most about whilst teaching the subject. Students had begun making their way into the classroom almost slouching on a large pile of sneezing mushrooms. " Nope watch out!" She said as he quickly levitated the large mushroom with her hand using wand-less magic. She frowned slightly and shook her head.

" Take a seat cautiously and open up to page 13 of One Thousand Magical Herbs and Fungi please. Today's topic will be Gilly Weed." She spoke in a calm tone as she slowly placed the sneezing mushroom back on the patch ensuring she didn't make the mushroom pop like other students have in the past. " Another 5 minutes and we'll begin. No wands this lesson please." She requested placing hers away as she stood at the front of the class room.

A sunny day in the castle, Sarah walked behind a group of laughing boys as she made her way to the Herbology Greenhouse for her lesson, smiling in content solitariness. Sure, people were fun and laughing with them even more, but sometimes having only your thoughts and the bright sunlight for company, was exceptional. Making her way into the classroom, she immediately spotted the writing on the board and figured it would be a theoretical lesson; no getting your hands full of dirt or waving your wand about.

'Nope, watch out!' Professor Thorne called out and Sarah jumped, away from whatever the heck she should be watching out for. She saw it was a mushroom and breathed out a sigh of relief. Mandrakes and Devil's Snare; no thanks. She made her way to the front of the class, in front of the teacher to her right and opened the book, smiling softly at Professor Thorne in greeting ("Morning, Professor," Sarah said) before looking for the page.

Herbology was a subject that Ana didn't really enjoy. As a matter of fact, she had flunked it quite a few times. She found the subject boring, dull and she found her self often sleeping through the class. Still, she had to complete this subject in order to complete her time at Hogwarts. " Yeah, yeah hi." She stated waving her hand toward the professor. She had some sort of respect for the woman only because she was a woman and she had the same parts she did. " Mandrakes again?" She asked acting if she were actually interested in the subject. She put on a fake smile and walked toward an empty chair.

Her eyes scanned the room as her smile slowly faded into nothingness. She turned around and unpacked all her things. She noticed someone else sitting next to her a person she had not met before. " Umm, who are you? " She asked with a disgusted look on her face. The clothes were obvious it were a Gryffindor though the face was something she had not seen before. She finished unpacking her things and placed her wand on the table. " You never know when you'll need it. " She said as she took an evil smirk and awaited for her reply.

[QUILLAN DONNAG]

It wasn't his favorite subject but Quill, as the son of an apothecary owner, always had a knack at Herbology. Others usually criticized the class claiming the work to be tedious and the information boring. But Quill, raised around magical gardens and familiar with most enchanted herbs was simply used to it. It didn't come naturally for him, though, as he still had to work his memory hard to remember the names of certain species and their magical properties. If the professor broke down each piece of information on one plant at a time, then the Slytherin boy was able to learn better than absorbing so many facts entirely at once. More often than not, that was the case.

Entering the greenhouse, Quill felt the warmth from the sun heat up around the glass room. The stone built castle of Hogwarts left most classrooms drafty and he would wear a jumper underneath his uniform robes to most lessons. That was never needed for Herbology if class took place in one of the greenhouses. They were designed to designate sunlight to each photosynthetic plant and prevent the weather from destroying anything. Quill preferred heat to the cold, he detested the winter months and longed for the days of summer. He just needed to feel warm at all times. Unfortunately for him, the Slytherin dorms were located in the dungeons but whenever he could get away with it, he had a large fire going in the main common room.

Always an attentive student, forced by his parents of course, Quill liked to sit near the front of the class where he could see the blackboard without looking past the heads of his peers. He passed other students as he found his seat and noticed a Gryffindor seventh year greet a good morning to Professor Thorne. She was blonde and he was immediately reminded of Althea. He wondered to himself where she was, how she was doing and if the other Gryffindor girl was a friend of hers. Realizing how distracted he was becoming, Quill shook his yellow head and turned his attention toward the front. He watched Professor Thorne struggle with the mushroom before he removed his materials from his bag.

The teacher instructed to keep wands put away and Quill mentally noted it becoming aware of his in the chest pocket of his shirt. He knew of many students who protested when denied use of their wands. Sure enough, a Hufflepuff piped up about her wand and Quill scoffed. It wasn't like a wand was needed to read. To get his mind off of the impractical girl, he opened his book and prepared a quill and parchment for taking notes. Gilly weed he recited in his head as he read the title of the chapter. Quill's blue eyes skimmed the page quickly but then returned to Professor Thorne, waiting for her to begin the lesson.

Sarah flipped through the pages of her textbook, sketches of magical plants they'd done and were still to do on them, and it wasn't a minute after she had found Gilly weed when someone addressed her. 'Umm, who are you?' the other girl asked with a look of disgust and Sarah's eyebrows rose slightly with surprise. The girl's clothes said Hufflepuff, but her demeanor suggested Slytherin. Sarah wasn't completely unobservant, so she knew her face but only in passing, although she clearly didn't."Sarah. I've actually been in this class for seven years, since you haven't noticed," she said, a bit surprised by her own bluntness, but she really didn't want any trouble with this girl. Just class, doing their work, and then moving along. Anyone who addressed people like that, in her books, must surely be pureblood and wouldn't take kindly to a muggleborn like Sarah.

When she glanced up, she noticed a blonde Slytherin boy looking at her with a curious expression - if she was right, she remembered him being the son of the Minister of Magic - before shaking his head and moving on. She frowned softly wondering what exactly that was about and tried not to laugh and only smiled when he scoffed at the other girl's comment about wands. "I don't think the Gilly weed are going to attack us any time soon..." she said softly to herself, turning back to her book before looking up at Professor Thorne for further instruction or for the lesson to begin.

Althea rushed into class and sighed with relief when she saw they hadn’t started yet. She looked around the classroom, to notice that there were currently just a few students so far. She actually wasn’t quite sure why she had chosen Herbology as one of her NEWT subjects, maybe it was just the fact that she had always enjoyed it and thought she might stand a chance of getting an O or even an E in it. She paused and glanced around, trying to decide where would be the best place to take a seat. Her heart leapt a bit when she saw Quill, so they at least had Herbology and charms together.

“Morning Professor” she said, remembering there was actually a professor in the greenhouse. She walked to a seat close to both Quill and a fellow Gryffindor seventh year, Sarah. She sat down and pulled out her Herbology textbook. “Hey” she said to both Sarah and Quill, grinning. Althea glanced at the other student, a girl from Hufflepuff. She couldn’t quite remember the girl’s name but she did remember the girl had a reputation for acting very un-hufflepuff like.

She quickly read what was written on the board and opened her textbook to the correct page. Her wand stayed in her bag like it was meant to. Althea may be in Gryffindor but that didn’t mean she was stupid enough to try and push boundries with any of the professors. Especially not one who had mandrakes and other magical plants at her disposal.

Atreyu had woken up late and to make it to herbology class, he rushed his dressing and took off out of Ravenclaw tower and made his way to the class room as he slide into the classroom trying to avoid the gaze of his professor he had spotted Quillan.
He egarly jumped into the seat next to him and said "Hey Bro, What's up?" But Quillan's 
Attention seemed to be directed on something else and it deffinetly wasn't the 
Lesson cause his paper was blank. Atreyu followed His gaze and saw who it fell on and it was
Althea.Atreyu nudged quill in the ribs and loudly said " Hey that's the Girl your stuck on, huh?".
Atreyu was quite impressed with quill taste in women he then said to quill "You got good taste bro".

[QUILLAN DONNAG]

Only seconds later was Quill distracted from his textbook with the sound of a familiar voice giving salutations. His head perked up with the realization and excitedly his eyes found Althea as she sat down near him. He followed her with his stare, admiring her beauty but mostly he was just happy to see her. He didn't know they had Herbology together seeing as many students didn't choose to take it after fifth year. His reasons to attend had been purely obligatory seeing as he had dropped many subjects in his sixth year but felt he still needed a certain number of classes as to not have to much free time. He wondered about Althea's election to take the NEWTs class. He wondered lots about her.

“Hey,” Quill echoed to Althea. A smile crept onto his face in response to hers. "It's nice seeing you again." He hadn't expected her to sit so close to him and it made him very happy that she did. She had also greeted the other Gryffindor seventh year girl that Quill spotted earlier. He had guessed that they were friends and seemed he may have been correct. Politely, he moved his head to get a better view of the other girl and said to her, "Hello to you, too."

The greenhouse door opened again to another student making his way into the lesson. Quill didn't turn to look at who it was as he hadn't anticipated that he knew anyone else who would attend. Instead, he kept his eyes on Althea, adoring the treasure that was in the classroom. Even among the aromas from the flourishing blossoms around them, Quill picked up her scent in his nose. Nothing blooming in that building could compare in his mind. There was a stir as someone took the chair on the opposite side of him. Still, he did not acknowledge whomever it was. Quill was still convinced none of his friends were in that class.

"Hey, that's the girl you're stuck on, huh?"

The sudden announcement from Atreyu startled Quill and he frantically turned to the sixth year to cut him off. His blue eyes gave a stone cold glare at his friend but the boy continued. Embarrassment flooded through him easily and his face reddened. For a Ravenclaw, Atreyu came off really dumb sometimes. Quill was immobile for a couple seconds, trying to come up with ways to salvage the situation. He threw an arm around his good friend and squeezed a little too hard hoping he would catch on.

"TREY!" Quill cried, a little too loudly. He face was still flushed but he tried to calm himself as his choke hold on his mate increased. "A pleasure seeing you here," he grunted ironically since at the moment his was going blind with anger for Atreyu's outburst. "I didn't know you were even taking this class."

Quill let go of his lycan friend roughly and pushed him lightly as he straightened himself and turned his attention toward the front. He smiled apologetically to Professor Thorne. It wasn't like Quill to react violently or even disrupt class like he had done. He was always trying his best to be a respectful young man, especially to his elders. His head hung in defeat as his shame grew. First he had been "outed" to the girl he fancied and then second he was probably going to catch a detention for his immediate reaction to it.

He sighed and placed his face in his hands. With a muffled whine, he said to Atreyu, "Thanks a lot, you git. You're my best mate and all but could you please try not to pull anymore chaos?"

She didn't like the tone of the girls voice that replied back to her. As a matter of fact, she wanted break it along with her face.  Her eye brows met at the center of her forehead She scoffed and grinned softly at  the Gryffindor's comments. Her comments were direct and easily spoken. There was no sense of tone of any kind, it sounded like a normal conversation. But of course, bi-polar b***h Ana had to take things to whole new other level. There was no need for a fight but Ana always found a reason to start and most likely, Ana's grin grew even bigger as her lips allowed her teeth to shine through.  " So, then I suppose you have all the notes right?" She said in a sarcastic tone as she placed gum in her mouth and began to chew with an open mouth with a disgusting sound being released from her lips. She then threw the wrapper on the floor and looked at the girl's book. Without hesitation she quickly grabbed the book that the Gryffindor girl was writing on. "Mind if I borrow this for a second?

[/color]]" She then began chewing loudly as she flicked through the pages and threw it back at the girl's table. " Thanks." She said as she began to turn around only to hear her final remarks.

Ana laughed and turned around again slowly. Her teeth gritted at the girl's smart arse comments. " There may not be a reason, but there might be if you keep talking like that." She said quickly lowering her voice and placing her wand away. A task she didn't exactly want to do but had no choice. Swarms of children began to flood the classroom and she knew that although causing a scene was her utmost most favorite things in the whole world, now wasn't a great time especially with this teacher who was well known for being one of the worse teachers in terms of attitude and strictness. " You got lucky kid.' she said as he took notice of the other kids. She nodded at a few and turned her direction towards to front of the class once again.[/blockquote]
