Mission & Training - Open Thread

It was the responsibility of a Senior Auror to instruct and mentor a younger fresh Auror into the Ministry. It was their job to teach them everything the senior had known through their years of experience. A senior auror would of been regarded as some sort of living superhero seeing as though they were the people to converse with if a witch or wizard was talking around killing people out of joy and boredom. The intelligence department of the Ministry has heard of a dark witch or wizard who has been causing havoc on the tender lands of Ireland. Normally Giovanni would send only one or two field agents to complete this task. Today, he brought along his whole senior team both field and operations to assist with the task. It wasn't going to be an easy task, then again, most of it wasn't.

Giovanni had unstructured his team in a small town located in Ireland where the so called dark witch or wizard was wreaking havoc.  The weather wasn't much help either. The sky was filled with the darkening and gloomy grey colour with clouds that formed a barrier to any kind of sunlight. It was cold, wet and windy. It was going to test them all but he knew that his team was more than capable of doing so. They were after all, professionals at what they did for a living. Giovanni stood underneath the towering building tree that acted as some form of protection from the weather. The tree located close to the town seemed to have blocked the weather and was a great place for his staff to meet. All he had to do now was just wait for the team to arrive.

Kay apparated just outside the small Irish town where a number of aurors were to meet with the Senior auror Giovanni. When he had received the message he had mentally started noting what could be the reasoning to send so many aurors on an assignment that usually only required two maybe three aurors maximum. Rogue wizards were more common than the ministry publicly admitted, but they were also easily dealt with as they rarely had any planning other than random killings. He understood the reasoning for not always telling the public about a rogue wizard, it meant that widespread panic was avoided and prevented copy cats popping up. 

Kay had purposefully arrived earlier and apparated on the opposite end of the village so that he could get a look at the village. He was wearing his staple of a leather jacket, jeans and good sturdy boots. He had learnt quickly that although his Auror robes looked impressive they looked out of place in some areas and muggle clothes were just more comfortable for those rare moments when he had to run after someone. Of course in this town, he had another benefit of muggle clothes since they managed to stay cleaner and to a point mud free. Robes that were wet and mud splattered were heavy, and made quick movements more difficult to perform. Kay glanced around him as he walked through the tiny town, it barely deserved the accolade of town.  

Something was off, usually at this time of the year there would be an excitement in the air with Christmas approaching. Yet if Kay hadn’t known better, it was almost as if the town was abandoned. There was a chilled wind blowing and the street was empty apart from Kay, every now and again he spied someone peeking out the window of a house from behind a curtain. It was almost as if they were waiting for something bad to happen. Kay hurried forward, instinctively feeling for his wand, it was in its usual spot inside his jacket’s pocket but the atmosphere put him on edge. He reached the edge of the town and saw the tree where he was to meet Giovanni and the other Aurors, he was curious to meet the new young Auror and see what he would do. 

He nodded at Giovanni as he approached the Senior Auror. He was surprised to see that apart from Giovanni, he was the first Auror to have arrived. “The others should be here soon” he said, even though he knew that should be fairly obvious.

Giovanni sat waiting under the tree for the staff to arrive. It shouldn't be long till they all arrive. Wands, robes, hats and whatnot. He watched as the occasional animal walked past him. It was odd seeing so many animals in one spot, then again, it was a weird part of the world. It was from the corner of his eye he had notice some sort of movement. A human figure had begun approaching. Giovanni lifted his head to see who it was. The face was rather blurry at first though it was all clear by the end of it. Giovanni smiled and stood as he watched the man approach.  The wind blew harder at this time with his robes flying in the wind back and forth splattering wet fabric all over his skin. It was indeed an unpleasant feeling and one that made Giovanni not want to work today. Though he knew that if he didn't do the work then his staff wouldn't do the work. The pay cuts at the Ministry had lowered the motivation of the staff to work. He let these thoughts run out of his mind as he finally figured out who it was in front of him.

" A pleasure Mr.Dillon." Giovanni said as his harsh voice matched the weather they were working in. He nodded and shook the man's hand with a tight but comfortable grasp. " Well make your self comfortable. He said as he waved his hand in a warm and welcoming gesture towards the other seat under the tree. Though sight of just the two of them would of seemed odd as he had requested all the Aurors to attend today's meeting/outing. " Although I would like to have all my team here today Mr.Dillon it seems as though it may just be us today. We'll wait it out a bit more if not, then we'll just continue on with the mission alone. Let's hope it doesn't result to that with no means of disrespect." He said as he himself took a seat.

Blimey - he couldn't possibly be late, could he? Not that it would be in any way uncharacteristic of him if he was. As good as an Auror he was, he really liked sleeping. Especially that sleeping when you know you have to get up and do stuff, y'know? But, since he really did not want to piss off his boss, he rolled out of bed, quickly made himself decent and yawned before appirating. Bloody Ireland of all places. Like he hadn't grown up there. 'Say 'potato'!' was always the first reaction upon hearing his accent. Really, what was the fascination? But damn, he did love potatoes. As he appeared in the small town, hidden from sight, he could still see the dark clouds above him. Typical. Was it complete wishful thinking to want a nice, sunny day? Right; Ireland. Of course it was.

Nonetheless, as he was one of those blokes who didn't let something like bad weather spoil his day, grinned and stuck his hands in the pockets of his leather jacket and made his way to where he had been instructed to show up. And would you know it; there they were! Only two others? 'Seth O'Malley, are you actually early today?' and with that he decided that he was now not only ruggedly handsome, but punctually awesome as well. And a little bit smug. As was the O'Malley way.

"What, no standing ovation?" he joked as he grabbed himself a chair as well, grinning brightly at them as he sat down, crossing his legs by putting the side his booted ankle on his knee. "Did the Auror Department get a new ship of Invisibility Cloaks they simply had to try on, or are we the only ones here?"

Kay nodded and shook Giovanni’s hand. Kay glanced at the seat “I will, thanks” he said, a hint of his Welsh accent slipping through. Kay’s seven years at Hogwarts and now living in Hogwarts meant his accent was nowhere near as strong as it had been when he had been eleven but every now and again it would slip in again. His accent didn’t annoy him, he just found that it caught some wizards in the Ministry off-guard. Almost as if they couldn’t believe that wizards existed outside of London.

Kay took a seat and nodded at Giovanni’s next words. “None taken” he said with a small tight smile. Kay really hoped some other aurors would turn up. He was fairly confident in his own abilities and was certain Giovanni would also be capable of dealing with a rogue wizard. His worry was that in some rare instances rogue wizards banded together and it could get messy then with only two aurors. Even if one more auror arrived it would make him feel a bit more confident, although he knew in the heat of the moment he was likely to in any case charge in and think later. Maybe that was why he was hoping for other aurors to arrive? He was more likely to curse and only afterwards think through what he was meant to do. Kay was better than when he first became an auror but he still had the hotheaded adrenaline junkie in him.

Kay glanced down at the ground, an awkward silence filled the air. What was he meant to talk about? The weather, they both knew it was damn miserable weather and he saw no point having an awkward stilted conversation about it being cold, wet and just plain miserable weather for going out in the field. Kay glanced up and saw another person approaching. He almost let out a sigh of relief when he saw a somewhat familiar face approaching. He knew Seth obviously as they were both aurors but he knew him more in passing.

Kay held back a laugh at Seth’s first words. “Sorry mate we’re just getting comfortable” he said with a small grin. He shook his head at Seth’s next few words. “We’re the only ones here, although I’m not sure if that’s a good thing or not” he said with a small frown. He almost wished that the Auror department had had a new shipment of invisibility cloaks, but with the current budget cuts that was impossible. He glanced at Giovanni, pondering the senior aurors next move. Would they wait a bit longer or would Giovanni brief them now, not waiting for more aurors to arrive.
